Education

I'm a graduate of Central Washington University with a degree in Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising, and a double minor in Apparel Design and Event Management. During my time in the program, I was able to explore the business side of the industry along with how creativity impacts the industry. In February 2020 + 2023 I was provided the opportunity to attend the MAGIC trade show with the SFA and it opened my eyes to the many opportunities and things I could do in the industry. I learned how to use the Adobe Creative Suite and primarily used InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. The program gave opportunities to speak with industry professionals all over the world via Zoom to give insight into the workforce. Some of my favorite and most impactful classes I took were fashion trend analysis, apparel manufacturing, and advanced fashion design. All of these classes constantly pushed me to think creatively and critically through research and technical work. After my time at CWU with the knowledge gained, I feel ready to succeed in the fashion industry.

Internship Experienc

River + Roots

Responsibilities

  • Identify business strategies for buying/selling

  • Identify the flow of merchandise from the buying stage through store stocking and merchandising

  • Document the flow of merchandise and the variations of this flow for different products

  • Identify practices for advertising products and/or the store

River + Roots is a wellness-based company that sells essential oils, crystals, sage, and more. My time with River + Roots was such a blast. I spent the summer creating and restocking products which we took to local markets to sell. The internship consisted of two days a week throughout the summer, one day was production focused and the other was market focused.  This experience had me exploring new products I wasn't familiar with and being more involved in the community.

I learned so many wonderful things that I could apply to not only my personal life but the fashion industry as well. I grasped a better understanding of marketing in person and online. I created long-lasting professional connections with the community and my supervisor. I learned how to source and buy materials to create a product to sell. I also started to learn how to create visual displays with items other than clothing.

I had the lovely opportunity to intern for the House of Hart Boutique for a summer. House of Hart is a family-run boutique that sells locally made items as well as some of their own designs. honed in on mastering my visual display skills and running the business during the day. When I wasn't connecting and selling to customers I was working on alterations for all kinds of garments. During the day I was in charge of recognizing where we needed new products, acquiring them, and putting them out on the floor.

I learned how to alter clothing to better fit our clients which is something I found a new joy in. I got a better understanding of the complete process of buying for a company. During the day I also grasped a better understanding of visual merchandise with clothing and other products.
